First of all, thank you for your interest in the Starkville Hockey Association (SHA).
The SHA was originally started in the Spring of 2003 under the title of Starkville Inline Hockey League (SIHL). The SHA is now the parent to, the inline hockey league (SIHL) and the ball hockey, otherwise known as "Street Hockey" league (SBHL). The SBHL is still waiting to have it's inaugural season.
Both leagues play their games at Moncrief Park, in Starkville, MS. The rink is outdoors. So if you play inline hockey you might want to get outdoor wheels.
How to become a member.
The SHA never stops accepting new members. Yes, even if it is mid season, we will accept new players. We'd love to have any potential new members come out for one or two games for free at first. This is to make sure you enjoy the experience before you sign up and pay your dues. If you join during a season, you will be prorated for the games you have missed.
We have three seasons in a year. Fall, Spring and Summer. Generally the Summer season is just pick up hockey. We do not make goalies suit up in the Summer.
SIHL membership dues, $70/season or $120/year
SBHL membership dues, $45/season or $70/year
To play in both the SIHL and the SBHL, $90/season or $160/year
Goalies who supply their own gear pay $25/season
If the league supplies the goalie gear you pay regular membership fee's.
Starkville Inline Hockey League
- Games are played on Sunday and Tuesday nights at 7pm. You may have some afternnon games on Sunday's.
- Teams are made up of 5-7 skaters (of various ability) plus goalie.
- Each team plays 12 games a season. 2+ playoff games.
- Games consist of 3 - 18 minute periods (running time) with 2 - 5 minute intermissions. If there is a 2 goal difference in the last 2 minutes of the third period, there will be stop time. If the game is tide you play a 5 minute sudden death overtime. If the game is still tide after overtime there will be a shoot out to determine the winner.
- No icing or offsides.
- 3 on 3 skaters plus goalies because of the small surface.
- The SIHL uses a puck
- NON CONTACT
- You get to keep your jersey at the end of each season
- At the end of each season there is an awards banquet. (At no extra cost)
- Once you are a member you can use the rink at any time provided their are no league games
Equipment
Mandatory gear : Protective cup, shinpads, helmet, inline skates and mouth guard.
Suggested gear : Hockey pants or thigh guards of some kind, elbow pads, visor or cage for helmet.
Optional gear : Shoulder pads.
